CodingBox Documentation

Glossary

A short reference of terms used throughout the CodingBox documentation.

Modules and memory

  • Transceiver — a pluggable module that converts electrical signals to light and

back for fibre-optic links.

  • EEPROM — the module's non-volatile memory holding identity, capabilities and

configuration.

  • DDM / DOM — Digital Diagnostic Monitoring: live temperature, voltage, bias and

optical power reported by the module.

Networks

  • FOL — fibre-optic line: a communication link built on optical fibre.
  • Single-mode — fibre with a small core for long-distance links.
  • Multi-mode — fibre with a larger core for short, low-cost links.
  • CWDM / DWDM — coarse and dense wavelength-division multiplexing: carrying many

channels on one fibre at different wavelengths.

CodingBox

  • Driver — local program bridging the browser app and a programmer over USB.
  • Programmer — the board that physically connects to a transceiver.
  • Simulator — the app's default mode when no hardware is attached, using sample

data so every screen is usable.
